A total of 510 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State have defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Dabon Garin Danmasara in Madobi Ward, Dutse, the state capital.
Reports from the state indicate that the card-carrying APC members left the party over alleged bad governance and anti-people policies.
Speaking on the reason for their defection, the leader of the decampees, Malam Mustapha Adamu Shugaba, explained that their decision was driven by the APC’s abandonment of the principles of fairness and justice. He also cited the mounting economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a key factor, emphasizing their collective desire for positive change.
Malam Mustapha stated, “We can no longer continue to be part of a party that has abandoned the principles of fairness and justice. We are convinced that the PDP is the party that truly cares about the welfare of Nigerians and will work tirelessly to address the challenges facing our state and country.”
He added, “We are excited to join a party that is dedicated to building a better Nigeria for all its citizens,” while calling on other dissatisfied APC members who share their concerns to follow suit and join the PDP.
Receiving the defectors, the Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Comrade Umar Danjani, welcomed them warmly, describing their defection as a significant boost to the party’s strength and influence in Jigawa.
The PDP deputy chairman said, “I use this moment to invite all like-minded individuals to join us in this journey towards a brighter future for our state and country. Together, we can achieve greatness. Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards building a stronger, more united party.”
He concluded, “We are thrilled to welcome our new members and look forward to working together towards a brighter future for our state.”
