The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Thursday urged all stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) to compile the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and actively promote the ruling party to grassroots voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaker Abbas made the call at the APC National Summit, themed “Renewed Hope Agenda: The Journey So Far,” held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He recalled that during his inauguration on May 29, 2023, President Tinubu pledged to grow the economy by six percent annually, rationalize the foreign exchange market, generate jobs, and tackle insecurity. According to the Speaker, Nigeria has made “remarkable strides” under Tinubu’s leadership.
Abbas noted that these commitments have formed the cornerstone of the APC’s policy direction, resulting in bold interventions that have reshaped Nigeria’s fiscal foundation and positioned the country for sustainable progress.
He said:
“Mr. President, fellow party members, as we turn our gaze toward 2027, we must acknowledge both the achievements we have recorded and the challenges that lie ahead. Now is the time for every APC stakeholder to intensify grassroots engagement.
Now is the time for every APC stakeholder to articulate our records in clear and compelling terms. Now is the time to take our message directly to our communities.
Electoral victory in 2027 will not be won on paper alone—it can only be secured through the confidence we inspire among the people. We can only do that by demonstrating how our policies are improving lives and will continue to do so.”
The Speaker emphasized the need to effectively market the Tinubu administration’s successes, including fiscal recovery, job creation, infrastructure development, and security improvements.
He stated:
“Every APC Governor, Senator, House Member, Minister, Commissioner, Special Adviser and Assistant, Board Member, and indeed every political appointee must collaborate with the President to translate his initiatives into tangible benefits that resonate with citizens across every ward.”
Speaker Abbas said the current journey has shown that decisive leadership, fiscal discipline, and cohesive action can yield significant results.
He highlighted the 2025 budget’s dual focus on austerity and strategic investment, the respect for the Central Bank of Nigeria’s autonomy in managing the ₦22.7 trillion in inherited liabilities, and the alignment of legislative frameworks with executive priorities—all of which exemplify the APC’s governance capacity.
“We must now channel these successes into a vibrant campaign for 2027, ensuring our party’s message of renewal and stability becomes a rallying cry in every town hall and market square,” he stated.
Speaker Abbas called for a blend of realism and ambition, urging party faithful not to rest on their laurels or slip into complacency. Instead, he encouraged deeper outreach, sharper messaging, and a stronger bond between the APC and the people.
“By persistently promoting our achievements and listening attentively to citizens, we will carry the Renewed Hope Agenda into the next electoral cycle. I have no doubt that come 2027, Mr. President and our party will secure a resounding mandate to continue delivering a prosperous Nigeria.”
He revealed that several prominent figures and numerous federal lawmakers from Kano, Osun, Kebbi, Delta, and Edo have recently joined the APC, raising the number of defections in the House to 25.
“With anticipated defections from PDP and Labour Party governors on the horizon, these developments highlight the APC’s growing momentum and position us as the party to beat in 2027,” Abbas added.
The Speaker also described the 10th National Assembly as “undoubtedly the most fortunate since the return to democracy in 1999.”
He attributed this not only to the presence of many former legislators now serving in the executive—including President Tinubu—but also to the President’s unwavering recognition of the National Assembly’s crucial role in grassroots development.
According to him, President Tinubu has made deliberate efforts to strengthen the legislature’s ability to meet constituency needs by increasing budgetary allocations for constituency projects.
“This strategic partnership between the Presidency and Parliament has empowered Senators and Members to deliver visible improvements in health, education, and infrastructure,” he concluded.
