Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state on Sunday inaugurated the Kwara Central APC Elders Caucus, with a charge to members of the caucus to ensure cohesion and unity among party members in the district.
Speaking at the event, the coordinator of the Elders Caucus, Alhaji Razaq Lawal, harped on the need for party members across the state to wait for the governor to give a directive on who would be the governorship candidate of the party in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
“We should reinforce the unity within the party. We have only one leader in the person of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq. On the issue of the candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election, we should wait for the governor to give a directive. Members should return to their wards, local governments and tell members that they need to wait for the governor’s directive. They should stop promoting any aspirant until we hear from the governor,” Lawal charged members.
He urged party members to be wary of name droppers camouflaging as leaders, adding that, “members of the newly inaugurated Kwara Central APC Elders Caucus are the legally recognised leaders of the APC across Kwara Central senatorial district.”
The chairman of the interim executive of the Kwara Central APC Elders Caucus, Alhaji Mustapha Kobe, in his acceptance speech, pledged allegiance to the state governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
He also called for unity among members of the party, urging them to always keep the Elders Caucus abreast of developments in their localities.
In his remarks, the state secretary of APC, Alhaji Mustapha Salman Isowo, said the inauguration of the Elders Caucus received the blessing of the party leadership, ably led by the chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi.
He said the chairman was delighted that the event was held at the party secretariat, even as he promised to replicate it in Kwara South.
The special adviser to the governor on Politics (Kwara Central), Alhaji Sulaiman Abubakar, said the governor was aware of the inauguration of the Elders Caucus.
He added that the governor would support the caucus with all that is needed to carry out their assignment.
The event was witnessed by APC chieftains, including the special adviser on Politics (Kwara Central), Alhaji Sulaiman Abubakar, Alhaji Iliasu Iponrin, APC chairman in Kwara Central, Alhaji Turawa, Alhaji Baba Adefalu, Alhaji Amuda Alaya, Alhaji Hassan Gegele, APC women leader, Alhaja Falilat Mohammed, women leader, Kwara Central, Alhaja Tawa Agaka and state financial secretary, Kure.
