Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a grassroots mobilisation group, Sunshine Grassroots Network (SGN), has inaugurated a 270-man advocacy team to mobilise votes across Ondo State for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group, while inaugurating the team in Akure, said its mandate was to take the achievements of the Tinubu administration to the grassroots and persuade voters who were still doubtful about the performance of the Federal Government to support the President and APC candidates at the polls.

The advocacy structure comprises 27 members of the state executive, five representatives in each of the 18 local government areas, 10 members across each of the 203 political wards and coordinators at the voting-unit level.

Speaking at the inauguration, Director-General of SGN, Hon. Dayo Awude, a former commissioner, said the group was established to bridge the gap between the administration’s policies and the electorate at the grassroots.

Awude said some voters were yet to appreciate the impact of the Tinubu administration, stressing that members of the advocacy team would engage the electorate directly in their wards and voting units.

He cited ongoing road projects across the state, including the Akure–Ado Ekiti road, Ondo–Ore road, Owo–Benin dualisation project and coastal road projects traversing Ondo South Senatorial District, as some of the Federal Government’s interventions in the state.

The SGN director-general also attributed increased federal allocations to states to the removal of fuel subsidy, saying Ondo State received about N28 billion in federal allocation in June, compared with what it received before the subsidy removal.

He further claimed that the cost of staple food items had reduced, while student loans had helped to reduce school dropouts by enabling students to remain in school.

Awude, however, urged the newly inaugurated team not to limit its activities to campaign mobilisation, but to also pursue reconciliation and expansion of the President’s support base within the APC.

He said all tendencies within the party capable of contributing votes to the APC’s success should be accommodated, stressing that genuine supporters of Tinubu should be encouraged to participate in the mobilisation effort.

He said, “To mobilise the people of Ondo State for the overwhelming re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the election of APC candidates into the National and State Assemblies is our mandate.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we are equally committed to the election of our National Assembly candidates across the three Senatorial Districts of Ondo State.

“These candidates, together with our candidates for the Ondo State House of Assembly, constitute the APC team whose election we are committed to working for across the state.”

Awude said the SGN was prepared to work with every genuine supporter of the President and APC candidates, urging members of the advocacy team to take the campaign to the grassroots and mobilise the electorate for overwhelming votes for the party in 2027.
