Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi on Thursday attended the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), in a move seen as signalling the consolidation of a new political force within the party.
The NEC meeting, presided over by the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, brought together party leaders, stakeholders, and political figures from across the country to deliberate on national issues and the future direction of the party.
During the meeting, Bala Mohammed formally introduced himself and his political structure to the party leadership following his recent political realignment.

His appearance immediately drew attention among party members and political observers, with supporters describing it as a major boost to the APM ahead of future electoral contests.
Addressing party leaders, the governor expressed concern over what he described as the declining state of democratic values in Nigeria, citing political intimidation, suppression, and shrinking space for opposition politics.
According to him, the country’s current political climate requires progressive-minded Nigerians to unite under a platform committed to justice, fairness, inclusiveness, and constitutional democracy.
Mohammed disclosed that after extensive consultations with political associates, community leaders, grassroots supporters, and elected officials, the APM emerged as the most suitable platform for advancing his political vision.
He said the party’s commitment to internal democracy, accountability, good governance, equity, and respect for the rule of law aligns with the principles he has consistently promoted throughout his political career.
The governor further revealed that his movement into the APM comes with a broad political structure spanning various levels of governance in Bauchi.
According to him, members of the National Assembly, lawmakers in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, local government chairpersons, commissioners, political appointees, ward executives, youth mobilisers, women groups, and thousands of supporters have aligned with the movement.
He described the development as more than a routine political defection, calling it a strategic coalition aimed at reshaping Nigeria’s political future and providing citizens with people-oriented leadership.
As the meeting ended, Bala Mohammed further stirred political discussions after officially obtaining his nomination form to contest for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the APM ahead of future elections.
