Nigerian publisher and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Dele Momodu, has expressed support for a possible joint presidential ticket featuring Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general election.
Momodu, who is the Publisher of Ovation Magazine spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, where he said pairing Atiku with Obi on the ADC platform could strengthen the opposition’s chances, pointing to their previous collaboration during the 2019 election.
“I’d pair him (Atiku) with Peter Obi because they worked together in 2019, so they already share a similar temperament. Peter Obi came third in the last election, so you don’t have to work too hard to maintain and attract the same group of people who love him,” he said.
He said such an alliance could help consolidate opposition forces as political realignments continue across party lines ahead of the next election cycle.
Momodu also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the party appears unsettled despite efforts by President Bola Tinubu to strengthen political support across the country.
He said the APC is showing signs of concern over the possibility of a united opposition capable of mounting a strong challenge in 2027.
“They (APC) cannot believe that we will have maybe four or five major opposition leaders in the country, and some people will go and put fire in their houses so that none of them will be strong enough to stand against the leader,” he said.
“It is reality; let’s not hide behind one finger. I keep saying it, Tinubu, today, despite gathering all the governors, ministers, legislators, and what have you, you can see the obvious panic in the party,” Momodu added.
Momodu further alleged that the ruling party is attempting to weaken opposition groups by frustrating their activities, including restricting access to venues for conventions and influencing political processes.

“Wherever dictatorship thrives, everybody keeps quiet. The majority of my friends are in APC; I pity them. Sometimes they just look like slaves; they grumble behind the master, but they dare not speak up. I pray for them; I wish them well because that is what they have chosen for themselves. I am telling you that Nigeria must be rescued,” he said.
“It’s insane,” he said, alleging that opposition parties are being deliberately frustrated as the race toward 2027 begins to take shape.
