Nigerian entertainer and activist, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has outlined the qualities he believes the country needs in its next president ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In an interview with Channels Television, he described an ideal president as one who is honest, genuinely committed to the welfare of the masses, and determined to make Nigeria self-reliant and productive rather than a consumption-driven nation.
He added that such a leader should be someone Nigerians can take pride in.

He said, “One that is truthful. One that really shows that he has the interest of the masses at heart. One that is willing to do everything for us to be self independent, productive and not to be consumers.
“One that you will look at and be proud of as a Nigerian. That is the kind of president I would like to see.”
When asked if he sees those attributes in the 2023 presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, Charly Boy affirmed that he does, noting that Obi stands out among other political figures.
However, he dismissed any suggestion that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu possesses those qualities.
His remarks follow recent developments in Lagos, where the Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area, Kolade Alabi David, renamed the popular ‘Charly Boy’ bus stop after rapper and singer, Olamide Adedeji, also known as Baddo.
