A popular human rights and anti-corruption activist, Comrade Ibrahim Garba Wala, popularly known as IG Wala, has unveiled ‘The Handshake Movement (THM)’, rallying support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement he personally signed Thursday in Abuja, IG Wala urged Nigerians, both old and young, to rally and join hands with his group to bring about a new path forward for Nigeria.
According to him, this journey to a better Nigeria is not about fighting each other, but about building bridges of understanding.
He said, “For a long time, like many of you, I have felt the sting of political frustration and disappointment. I have pointed fingers and placed blame, convinced that our nation’s problems were the fault of a few individuals. This is a common and understandable feeling, but I’ve come to a powerful realisation: our focus on blame has held us back.
“Blaming is easy. It keeps us stuck in the past and blinds us to the real work that needs to be done. I’ve realised that true progress will not come from tearing down individuals, but from building up a new system. Today, I am making a personal resolution to shift my approach—not just for myself, but as an offering to all of you who share my hope for a better Nigeria.
”I believe it is time for all of us to stop putting faces to political platforms and instead, focus on the platforms themselves. Let us no longer give our collective power to individuals who are fallible. Power, when abused, can become a source of pain and corruption, but when wielded by the people, it becomes the tool for change and progress.”
While making his public declaration, the statement said: “From this day forward, I commit to being an architect of a new political era, one that is not defined by single leaders but by strong institutions and platforms that are truly owned by the people. I will focus on holding leaders accountable to the Constitution and the principles they represent, not on their personalities.
“I will engage with empathy, correct with respect, and unite with purpose. I will no longer attack those who align with leaders, but instead seek to correct their wrongs in a civilised manner, because they are acting on wrong assumptions.
“The time for a new dawn is now, and it begins with me. It begins with my personal commitment to a new way of engaging politically, and I invite you to join me on this journey. Let us shift our focus from what was wrong to what we can do together. The future of our nation depends on us to forge a new path built on hope, trust, and shared responsibility. Let’s get to work.
“I hereby call on you to join the handshake, and urge you to pass the handshake across, under a new platform called The Handshake Movement – Hand-In-Hand for Nigeria, Hand-In-Hand for ADC.”
