The Niger State Planning Commission, in collaboration with the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, held a stakeholders’ meeting at Mashegu zone as part of the ongoing preparations for the 2026 budget.
The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, brought together stakeholders from Kontagora, Mariga, Mashegu, Rijau, and Wushishi Local Government.
In his remarks, Hon. Moh’d Yusuf, Council Secretary of Mashegu Local Government (representing Hon. Umar Jibrin Igade), the executive chairman, expressed appreciation to the organisers for providing a platform for grassroots participation in the budget preparation process.
He commended Governor Umaru Muhammad Bago on his “New Niger Agenda” and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the government’s initiatives.
The Commissioner for Planning, Alhaji Mustapha Jubrin Ndajiwo, represented by Permanent Secretary Hajiya Aisha T. Usman, emphasised the importance of stakeholders’ engagement in ensuring the 2026 budget reflects the people’s needs and aspirations.
The budget exercise, which will commence on August 25, 2025, will enhance good governance.
Commissioner for the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Hamidu Mu’azu Jantabo, was represented by the Director of Community Development, Mr. Mudu Yisa, who highlighted the significance of citizens’ engagement, stating it has brought the government closer to the people and provided a sound basis for local government councils to harvest inputs that will meet the desires and needs of the people.
The Director of Planning, Quantity Surveyor (QS) Musa Usman Jemaku, presented a breakdown of the 2025 Budget, highlighting progress made and contributions to IBBU University, Emirates, Urban Renewal& World Development Projects.
From January to June, local government contributions were reported as a flat rate. This update demonstrates the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in budget implementation.
The meeting facilitated diverse perspectives from citizens’ groups, including Emirates, people with disabilities, women’s groups, and youth organisations, whose feedback and suggestions will inform the 2026 budget.
