Nigerian Breweries Plc has explained why it has decided to extend by two weeks entry submissions for this year’s edition of its Maltina Teacher-of-Year (MToY) Award Competition.
Originally slated deadline for August 22, the company has moved the new date for submission to Friday, September 5.
The Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mr. Uzodinma Odenigbo said the decision was a response to teachers’ requests asking for more time to enable them to complete their applications.
This extension, he noted, is to ensure that as many deserving teachers as possible can participate.”
According to Odenigbo, “This year’s edition is 11th in the series and is open just like the previous ones to all secondary school teachers currently teaching in the country.
“So, the competition remains an effective intervention programme geared towards giving pride to the teaching profession and improving the education sector in Nigeria as a whole,” he added.
While noting that eligible teachers interested in taking part in the competition are to log on to http://www.maltinateacheroftheyear.com to complete their application online, Odenigbo added that alternatively, applicants can also download the form and send the completed form via email to maltinateacheroftheyear@heineken.com.
He reiterated the commitment of the company to rewarding teachers, stating that the overall winner for the competition would receive a trophy, a total cash prize of N10 million, and entitle to a capacity development training abroad while his or her school would get infrastructure project that worth N30 million.
“The first and second runners-up will receive a trophy and a sum of N5 million and N3 million respectively while all state champions will get N1 million each plus recognition plaque for their efforts,” he added.
The Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative was established in 2015 and is funded through the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, which was set up in 1994 to facilitate an active contribution to the development of the education sector in Nigeria in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4.
