2025 Hajj: NAHCON inaugurates committee to review National Medical Team guidelines

As part of its preparation for the 2025 Hajj operations, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on Thursday inaugurated a committee to review the National Medical Team Guidelines.

Inaugurating the committee, NAHCON Commissioner in charge of Personnel, Research, Statistics, Information, Library Service (PRSILS), Professor Abubakar Yagawal, expressed his confidence in the abilities of members of team to execute the task assigned.

Yagawal reminded members that they were carefully chosen for the assignment, adding that the outcome of the task they were given to do would be for the benefit of Nigerian pilgrims who are guests of Allah in the Holy Land.

Responding on behalf of members, the committee chairman, Dr Saidu Ahmad Dumbulwa, reaffirmed their commitment to adapt and implement the new directives effectively.

While highlighting the annual nature of the updates, the chairman assured that the team is well-prepared to handle the evolving responsibilities.

“I warmly welcome you all and congratulate you on being part of this significant endeavour. In shaa Allah, I am confident in your ability to contribute to our success. May Allah Almighty guide and assist us in all our efforts,” he said.

Dr Dumbuwal acknowledged the vital role played by medical experts and stakeholders in achieving past successes and emphasised importance of inclusivity and collaboration in addressing the committee’s terms of reference.

He expressed gratitude to the Prof Yagawal for inaugurating the committee.

He continued, “This is not the first time we are taking on such a mandate. Last year, we faced similar challenges and achieved remarkable outcomes through collaboration and expertise.

“I am confident that we can replicate and exceed those successes.”

Dumbuwal promised that the committee, which is to deliberate on critical health strategies for the next year, would provide a platform for robust discussions and actionable outcomes.

Other speakers at the event expressed optimism the review committee’s work and deliberations provided potential to shape health policies and ensure a seamless implementation of the 2025 health guidelines in time for 2025 Hajj operations.

The review committee, comprising medical experts, policymakers and relevant stakeholders, is saddled with the responsibility of: Reviewing the 2025 guidelines and refining implementation strategies; forecasting and assessing costs for drugs and consumables, both onshore and offshore; aligning medical allowances with international standards and disseminating and ensuring compliance with new Saudi medical policies.

The committee also aims to address cardiovascular health and other medical concerns while ensuring compliance with the Federal Ministry of Health’s overarching policies.

It is further tasked with the responsibility of establishing robust medical emergency services at camps, supported by the Federal Ministry of Health; training medical personnel and screened participants for effective service delivery and enhancing coordination between federal and state agencies under a unified leadership.
