The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board (KSPWB) report has confirmed that two pilgrims died and another is missing during the 2025 Hajj exercise in Saudi Arabia.
The board identified the deceased pilgrims as Shafiu Mamuda Utai and Ibrahim Ali Tiga of Wudil and Bebeji Local Government areas respectively.
The Director-General of the Kano pilgrims board, Alhaji Lamin Rabi’u Danbappa, disclosed this at a presentation of the 2025 Hajj report to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf by Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammad Mahraz, who was the head of the Hajj Delegation at the governor’s annex office at Kwankwasiyya City in Kano
Danbappa also declared that another pilgrim, Sani Abubakar Danmaliki, an elderly man from Kumbotso Local Government area of the state, was said to have been missing in Madinah, preparatory to the commencement of the 2025 Hajj rites.
According to him,the board had already paid a condolence visit to the families of the deceased.
He then added that based on the information gathered from the pilgrim’s roommates, he was mentally fit before his disappearance.
Danbappa however stated that after all efforts to find the pilgrim failed by the board, the management had written a notification letter to the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, through the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to ensure the pilgrim is located.
He however said that “We have not rest on our ores when we notice the missing of the pilgrim. We did out best to find him but to no avail.
“We however written to the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, who assured us its efforts to find him.
“We have notified his family and they are happy and appreciate our efforts on the issue. They even thank you, Your Excellency for your efforts and directives to find their father,” Danbappa revealed.
Danbappa conveyed the governor Yusuf’s sympathy to the family of the missing pilgrim and restated the commitment of the government to locate him.
Based on the development, Danbappa disclosed that plans are underway to constitute a psychiatric committee, aimed at testing the mental ability of the prospective pilgrims of the state.
The DG informed the governor that no outbreak of disease was recorded among the Kano pilgrims, no child birth and breach of security while performing the Hajj rites.
He also informed the governor that the SR 250 donated by the governor to each of the pilgrims and officials was judiciously disbursed by the Sarkin Karaye.
The DG also stated that no report of missing luggage was recorded this year, adding that “we are not owing NAHCON a kobo. But it is owing us a refund of the deceased pilgrims.
He expressed appreciation to the governor for his support towards the success of the Hajj.
In his remark, the Emir of Karaye explained that the report is of two parts, one from the Hajj Delegation and the comprehensive one by the pilgrims B’board.
The said the report explained how the two bodies worked together to arrive at the success of the Hajj.
He.commended governor Yusuf, who was the Amirul Hajj im the 2025 exercise, for his tireless support to ensure everything went well.
The Gov Yusuf assured the board that his administration would continue to offer support for the overall success of the Hajj exercise.
He restated commitment of his administration to ensure every year Kano retrains first position on Hajj operation.
