The Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo has said that the Delta State House of Assembly will collaborate with the state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to ensure transparency and accountability in the implementation of the 2025 budget, ensuring every naira is judiciously spent.
Reacting to the speedy passage of the N979.2 billion appropriation bill, tagged the Budget of Fiscal Consolidation, in a statement on Thursday, Akpowowo expressed his delight over the swift and successful legislative actions on the bill. He noted that the 2025 budget would undoubtedly drive growth and development in Delta State.
According to him, the budget reflects the state government’s commitment to improving the lives of Deltans, adding that he is confident it will positively impact the economy and infrastructure.
However, he acknowledged the significant responsibilities ahead in implementing the budget. He urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the state government to access the funds and utilize them efficiently and effectively for the benefit of constituents.
He stated, “As Deputy Speaker, I pledge to work closely with Mr. Speaker and other stakeholders to ensure that this budget translates into tangible benefits for our citizens.
“We will join forces with His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, to maintain transparency and accountability in the implementation process, ensuring every naira is judiciously spent.
“This budget is a testament to our dedication to the welfare of Deltans, and we are eager to see the positive change it will bring to our state,” Akpowowo said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker, who represents Ethiope East constituency in the House, has been assigned to oversee the investigation of alleged gross misconduct committed by two suspended members of the legislature.
The two members, Hon. Chukwudi Dafe (Ukwuani constituency) and Hon. Oboro Preyor (Bomadi constituency), were suspended for 14 legislative days.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, had earlier announced a three-member ad hoc committee to investigate the alleged misconduct during Wednesday’s plenary session.
Members of the committee include Hon. Bridget Anyafulu (Oshimili South constituency) and Hon. Benson Obire (Warri South 2 constituency), while Mr. Smart Edoge, a Deputy Clerk of the House, will serve as the Committee Clerk.
