Interested teachers in both public and private secondary schools in the country now have till August 2 to submit their applications for this year’s Maltina Teacher of the Year(MToY) Award competition.
The competition is being organised and sponsored annually by the Nigerian Brewerìes Plc under its social arm, Nigerian Breweries Plc-Felix Ohiwerei Trust Fund, and it is free and opened to all secondary school teachers nationwide.
The submission of entries for this year’s edition was earlier scheduled to close on July 19 before this new date.
Announcing the two-week extension in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos, on Tuesday, the Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mrs. Sade Morgan, said the rationale for extending the submission deadline is to give room for more willing teachers to file in their applications.
According to her, many teachers have been calling for extension so that they too can be able to apply and we don’t want to deny them, hence the extension.
To participate, eligible teachers, who must not be above 55 years old can visit the dedicated website to complete the entry form online or alternatively download the form, complete and scan it, and then send as an email to [email protected].
Mrs Morgan emphasised that the competition remains an effective intervention programme by the company to identify and celebrate exceptional teachers in the country.
While encouraging those who are qualified but yet to submit their applications to do so within the two weeks window, she reiterated that the overall winner for this year’s edition will receive N10 million, a trophy, capacity building training abroad and a block of classrooms or a computer laboratory for his or her school.
The first and second runners-up, according to her, will receive N3 million and N2.5 million and a trophy, respectively, while all the state champions will go home with N1 million each and a certificate of recognition.
She noted that all the winners would be unveiled and prizes given at the award ceremony in Lagos in October.
The competition, instituted in 2015, has produced nine winners including the current champion.
They are Rose Nkemdilim Obi, Anambra State (2015), Imoh Essien, Akwa Ibom State (2016), Felix Ariguzo, Delta State (2017), Olasunkanmi Opeifa, FCT (2018), Ezem Collins, FCT (2019), Oluwabunmi Anani, Adamawa State (2020), Abanika Taiye, Delta State (2021), Alaku Ayiwulu, Plateau State (2022) and Adeola Adefemi from Lagos State (2023).
