THE National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Professor Tunde Adeniran, on Thursday, said with the renewed vigour, commitment and great hope which the SDP has engendered and imbued every member with, the party would speedily rebrand, retool and move to the next phase of growth and institutional stability.
He said in the weeks and months ahead, some bold and strategic steps would be taken to rebuild the party into a cohesive political family, reignite its hope and aspirations and transform it into a wholesome political organization in nature, essence and in character.
Professor Adeniran, who stated this while delivering his speech after the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party ratified his chairmanship in Abuja, therefore, urged members to go back to their respective states and begin to engage with various re-engineering and revamping process which is to strengthen the party at all levels.
According to him, we are conscious of the relatively weak structures of the party in some states which generally led to the unimpressive level of performance we recorded in such states in the last general elections and the challenge of proven dual loyalty of some members across the board.
“We are fine-tuning and firming up arrangements to overhaul, re-organise and strengthen the structures and organs of the party at all levels to attune its administration to the impressiveness of time. We will strongly enforce discipline but will not be impetuous in our actions,” he assured.
Professor Adeniran, therefore, said the party under his watch would continue to celebrate and accord the former chairman of the party, Chief Olu Falai deserving regards and honour, and would always reserve a special pride of place for him in the party’s hall of fame for his pioneering role and commendable personal sacrifices he made in building SDP from the scratch and to have succeeded in bequeathing it to other party faithful.
It will be recalled that Professor Adeniran has been on acting capacity following the resignation of the former party Chairman, Chief Olu Falai.
The election of Dr Olu Agunloye was also ratified as the National Deputy Chairman of the party in South West as part of efforts to reposition SDP in the zone.
