2023: Kwara govt asks political appointees to resign

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has asked all political appointees of the state government seeking nominations for elective offices in the forthcoming primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to resign.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Mamman Saba Jibril, on Tuesday in Ilorin, the government stated that the directive was in line with provisions of Section 84 (12) of the new Electoral Act.

The statement titled, RESIGNATION OF APPOINTEES SEEKING ELECTIVE POSITIONS, also said that all resignation letters should be submitted to the office of the Secretary to the Kwara State Government not later than April 15, 2022.

It is recalled that some of the political appointees of Governor Abdulrazaq like Ambassador Yahaya Seriki, Hajia Saadat Modibbo Kawu, among others, had indicated their interests to contest in the next general elections in Kwara Central senatorial district and House of Representatives seats, respectively.

Also, the Security Adviser to the governor, Alhaji Yinka Aluko, has made his intention known to contest for the Kwara Central senatorial seat in the next general elections, just as the Senior Special Assistant on Rural Mobilization, Comrade Musbau Esinrogunjo, has also declared his political ambition come 2023 general elections.
