THE All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi west senatorial district, on Tuesday adopted President Mohammadu Buhari and Governor Yahaya Bello, as sole candidates for the 2019 presidential and governorship elections.
The leaders and members of the party from the district including a former senator representing the senatorial district, Senator Smart Adeyemi, the speaker of the state house of assembly, Matthew Kolawole, the state chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Alhaji Taofik Isa and other political office holders from the zone made the disclosure at a rally of the party held at Kabba township stadium.
The speaker at the rally moved the motion for the adoption and seconded by the chief whip of the state assembly, Victor Omofaye, following which those in attendance supported.
Speaking at the rally Adeyemi said the people gathered to show the whole world their stand on serious national issues as regard the next general elections in the country.
He said the adoption and endorsement followed the achievements of the APC at the state and federal levels since the coming of the present administrations at both levels.
He noted that the senatorial district would commence a new phase of politicking in January 2018 to show the people the acceptability of Buhari and Bello.
The former senator said, “We want to tell the whole world that for us in Kogi west, we are impressed and pleased with your administration because you have exhibited justice, equity and fairness, you have given us a sense of belonging.
“You are committed to the socio-economic advancement of our state, we also salute your courage for sanitising the civil service, we are determined to support President Muhammadu Buhari whenever he decides to contest”.
The speaker, who was also the chairman of the central planning committee of the event, said the people of the state had witnessed the effects of bad governance of past administrations in the state.
He, however, said the rally was a manifestation of the acceptability of Buhari and Bello among the people of the state.
Kolawole, however, pleaded with aggrieved members of the party to sheath their sword and work together with government for the benefit of all.
The governor told the crowd that his political opponents were angry with him because he didn’t agree that the resources of the state be shared among few individuals.
He said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had no prove of the allegation of double registration leveled against him.
Bello said, “They said I engaged in double registration, INEC cannot and can never prove, they are going against the will of God, they gave money to individuals to propagate the allegation, it is a white lie.
“On May 19, I was in Dubai but they went ahead to Photoshop me in order to implicate me, they goofed, they want to continue to lord themselves over our people.”
