THE Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has said only God can stop President Muhammadu Buhari from winning the 2019 presidential election.
The governor said no amount of gang up could prevent the president from contesting and winning the election whenever it is held.
Bello, spoke Tuesday evening during a programme tagged “Infrastructural Expo” to appraise the infrastructural development in the state as part of the activities marking the second anniversary of the administration, condemned the rising opposition to Buhari’s government.
According to him, the president had since his assumption of office in 2015 been working tirelessly to stabilise the polity.
He said despite the challenges facing the country, some of whom were inherited by the president, Nigeria had progressed from the level that Buhari met it when he assumed power.
Bello said Buhari was doing well in the fight against corruption, insurgency and improvement in the economy, noting that the foreign reserve has been bolstered significantly, compared to what was in place before he came on board in 2015.
He pointed out that no campaign of calumny against Mr President would frustrate his re-election, more so that he has the overwhelming support of Nigerians to continue in office, because of his transparent leadership and desire to move the country to another level of development.
The governor wondered why people who plundered the resources of the country would be contemplating returning to power.
Bello added that God who made Buhari pass through the valley of death preserved him for a purpose, expressing confidence that President Buhari would secure another term at the next election.
Bello said, “Mr President is boiling them with cold water, suffocating them because they cannot stomach him for eight years, that is why they are crying foul. When the time comes they will know that majority of the people of this country are solidly behind him. So those who are against the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari cannot stop him.”
Bello explained that if God endorses Buhari to serve his constitutional two terms he did not need the support of anyone to achieve it, insisting that those who ran the country aground were desperately seeking relevance, trying to play God.
He maintained that no amount of intimidation, media manipulation and a campaign of calumny could compel the president to abandon his commitment to putting the country on the path of greatness, stressing that the current efforts at retrieving all the stolen monies from the nation’s coffers would not be abandoned because of some selfish individuals.
