2019: Female aspirants agree to pursue ‘woman agenda’

Female aspirants  who want to vie for political offices in the 2019 general elections in  Nigeria have decided to pursue a deliberate “woman agenda” to ensure more women are elected into elective offices in  2019.

This was their position at a one day summit jointly organised by Women Radio 91.7, Nigerian Women Trust Fund   and  Women in Politics Forum.

Speakers at the summit included Australian High Commission,  Mr Paul Lehmann; UN Women Country Representative for Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ms. Comfort Lamptey; Sentel Barnes; Alhaji Muhamadu Lawal Nalado – Chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council,  National Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission, Dr Adekunle Ogunmola; National President Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Iyalode Alaba Lawson; Mrs Moji Makanjuola; Dr Tosin Dokpesi and Rt. Hon. MulikatAkande-Adeola.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of WFM, Toun Okewale Sonaiya urged  women to vote, campaign, fund and pray for female aspirants to secure more elective positions.

While speaking at the event, Mufuliat Fijabi  expressed hope that more women would be represented in elective offices in 2019 as Nigeria could no longer boast of being the giant of Africa with low women representation in politics and governance.

Ebere  Ifendu,  on her own part urged men to canvass votes for women, saying that women have always been supporting men’s political ambitions, ,adding  that 2019 was the turn of women, hence the need for men to support them.

The summit hosted over 150 aspirants from across the 6 geo political zones in Nigeria.
