2019: ADC elects former CBN deputy gov, Mailafia, as Presidential candidate

MailafiaTHE presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr Obadiah Mailafia, on Sunday night, emerged as the party’s candidate at the keenly contested presidential primary election of the party for the 2019 presidential election.

He polled 860 votes to defeat his only challenger, Princess Saidat Odoffin who polled 310 votes.

The National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Saidi Baba Abdullahi, who announced the result, however, said there was no winner or loser and urged the party faithful to work assiduously to ensure that the party defeated both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019 general elections.

In his acceptance speech, the Presidential candidate of the party, Dr Mailafia, said the focus of his administration is to tackle the menace of insecurity; electricity for all; building world-class infrastructures; defeating poverty and providing jobs; youth empowerment; women and gender equity; nation-building and restructuring; education, technology, and skills; as well as health for all and laying the foundations for a new Nigeria.

He said his emergence as party flag bearer was a call for a new Nigeria and urged members of the party to join hands together with a view to ensuring that the party emerges victorious in 2019.

Dr Mailafia further thanked them for tremendous sacrifice they exhibited during the voting, assuring not to let them down before, during and after the elections.

Earlier, the National Chairman of the party, Mr Ralph Okey Nwosu said that ADC was in the process of rebuilding the country, and advised party members to go back to their various wards and constituencies to work for the success of the party in the coming elections.

According to him, we are in the process of redefining politics in our country and that will happen. We are building a modern political party and this modern political party nobody can change that.
