Chief (Mrs) Rita Lori-Ogbebor
RIGHTS activist, Chief Mrs Rita Lori-Ogbebor, has urged the Federal Government to ban politicians currently having cases of corruption in the nation’s courts from contesting the forthcoming general elections.
Lori- Ogbebor made the call on Tuesday in Lagos while speaking at a press conference on the state of the nation, saying the ongoing war against corruption would be tactically defeated if the government allowed corrupt politicians with various cases that bothered on corruption to continue to move about freely to the point of contesting the forthcoming elections.
In specific term, the rights activist urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to publish the names of politicians who were having cases with it, with a view to stopping them from contesting the 2019 polls, even as she charged Nigerian women to back such call by demanding that the anti-inflammatory graft commission must embark on such course of action.

This was just as she said that the country would be sending wrong signals to the people, especially those outside the country that corruption was a way of life in this part of the world if it allowed corrupt politicians to participate in the 2019 general election.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should be awake to its responsibilities. The Anti-graft agency should ban corrupt politicians from contesting 2019 General Elections. The police, ICPC should come up with a list of these corrupt people they had investigated and whose cases are in courts. They should not be allowed to take part in this coming elections until their cases are cleared. It is wrong to allow them to contest elections,” Lori- Ogbebor.
The rights activist said though she was not campaigning for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), noted that the party took the best decision by appointing wife of the President, Hajia Aisha Buhari as the Head women and Youths of its campaign team.
“This is one woman that has been a moral voice speaking for the people. She is married to a general, the sitting president but that does not stop her from telling her husband and the government the truth. If the APC has now decided to make such woman the coordinator of women and youths. I think they have done the right thing,” she said.
