THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has conducted a foreign-based Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination for 200 Nigerian candidates abroad and citizens of other nationalities who may want to study in Nigeria.
This was intended to give opportunity to all Nigerians desirous of qualitative higher education particularly Nigerians in diaspora and other foreigners who might wish to come and acquire tertiary education.
The Board made this known in its Weekly Bulletin, made available to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja by the Head of Information of JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin.
The seven countries where the examination took place on Saturday 27th April, are Ghana, United Kingdom, Cameroon, Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
JAMB said the examination was hitch-free and successful was a testimony to the commitment and capacity of the Board to render quality service to the nation whenever the need arise.
It said: “Over 200 candidates took the UTME examination that held simultaneously on Saturday 27th April 2019 in all the aforementioned countries.

“Reports from the Board’s officials deployed to these foreign examination centres revealed that the candidates, particularly Nigerians, were elated with the various innovations and professionalism brought to bear on the conduct of the examination by the Professor Ishaq Oloyede-led JAMB.
“They also express their appreciation to the Board for according them the opportunity to achieve their dreams and aspirations for tertiary education,” the Board said.
A senior official of the Board who monitored the examination in a remark said, “we are indeed happy to have achieved yet another feat especially as we had people who came around to observe and understudy the process.”
According to the official, the people were happy as well as impressed with what they saw on the ground, saying “we know it can only be better because we have the capacity and all it takes to move this country to the next level.”
On the rationale for conducting this extra level of UTME, the official added, “we are not just conducting the examination in these countries on account of the candidates alone which was, at any rate, negligible but because we also want to showcase Nigerian’s giant strides in technological advancement on the global scene.”
