In a bid to address the lingering economic hardship faced by women in Bauchi State, the Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity, and Development Initiative has launched a skills acquisition training program for 200 women.
The programme, which is divided into two batches of 100 women each in Bauchi Local Government, aims to equip the beneficiaries with various skills to enhance their economic well-being and promote self-reliance for sustainable peace and development.
In an interview with Bauchi State Coordinator of Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity, and Development Initiative, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Akuyam, said that the initiative was established by the former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Bafarawa, with the primary objective of promoting peace, unity, and development in the northern part of Nigeria.
It is a well-known fact that the region has been ravaged by insecurity, which has had a devastating impact on the lives of its citizens.
The organization believes that empowering women and promoting peace and unity are essential for the development of the region.
According to Akuyam, the organization’s emphasis is on the importance of peace, unity, and development as the bedrock of its prowess to empower women together with its Chairman Board of Trustees Alhaji Bafara and like minds.
By promoting these values, the organization aims to create an environment that is conducive to growth and development.
He maintained that the skills acquisition training programme is a key component of this strategy, as it will enable the beneficiaries to acquire new skills and become self-reliant in conjunction with the adage educating a woman, educating a society.
Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim Akuyam, expressed his delight at the launch of the program, stating that it was a key component of the organization’s strategy to empower women and promote peace and unity in the region.
The State Women Leader, Hajiya Sa’adatu Aminu Yahaya, emphasized that the programme was a neutral effort to enhance the living conditions of the Northern population, and urged the beneficiaries to use the opportunity to change their lives and benefit others.
She noted that the training programme will cover various skills, including the production of air freshener, liquid soap, milk candy, local ready-to-use food (“turn brown food”), and “Turaren wuta” (fire perfume). The beneficiaries will be trained by experienced instructors who will guide them through the entire process.
The programme is expected to last for two weeks, with each batch of 100 women receiving training separately.
The Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity, and Development Initiative has partnered with Antanzil and Prestige International Schools to deliver the skills acquisition training program.
The partnership is a testament to the organization’s commitment to collaboration and its determination to make a positive impact in the lives of women in Bauchi State.
With the support of its partners, the organization is confident that the program will achieve its objectives and make a lasting impact on the lives of the beneficiaries.
