The Niger State Police Command has smashed a gang of inter-state armed bandits terrorising Agaie-Lapai highways as well as Abuja- Kaduna highway by kidnapping high-profile targets and robbing unsuspected motorists and commuters alike.

The state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Zubairu Muazu, stated this on Thursday at a media briefing held in his office at the state police command headquarters in Minna, the state capital.

The police boss stated that the success was achieved through the continuation of massive onslaught on kidnappers, cattle rustlers and other armed bandits in some parts of the state.

According to him, “the Niger State Police Command, with the support of the Inspector General of Police Special Tactical Squad, on  December 7 at about 2:00 p.m. smashed a gang of notorious armed bandits terrorising Agaie- Lapai area and Abuja- Kaduna highway, kidnapping high-profile targets and robbing  unsuspecting motorists and commuters alike.

“A well-coordinated operation culminated in an exchange of fire which lasted for nearly two hours, during which two of the hoodlums were killed while one escaped with bullet wounds. Exhibits recovered included one locally-made AK-47 rifle with 105 live ammunition, 15 expended ammunition and one ash-colour Opel Vectra vehicle with registration number FU 952 ABJ.

Similarly, the CP noted that the special operations launched by the command a few weeks ago had been yielding positive results.
