A 34-year-old mechanic, Ibe Eze, and Obinna Nweke, 24, were arraigned in a Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, over alleged theft of car parts valued at N250,000.
The defendants are facing trial on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft, offences they denied committing.
The prosecutor, Mr Joshua Ayanna, told the court that one Mr Emmanuel Ogbonna of Dutse, reported the matter at Apo Police Station on April 3, 2015.
He said that the complainant alleged that the defendants, “conspired and vandalised his Chevrolet van and removed some parts valued at N250, 000.”
Ayanna said that during police investigations, it was discovered that the first defendant, Eze, confessed to have sold the parts for N18,000.
He also said that out of this sum, Eze also confessed to have given his other accomplice, Nweke, N1, 000.
Ayanna said that the offences were contrary to Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Mr Umar Kagarko admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N150, 000 each, with a surety each in like sum and adjourned the case until June 28.
