2 bag 21years jail term in Ekiti for robbery

Two persons, Adeniyi Ajibade (27) and Tosin Ojo (21) have bagged 21 years prison sentence for robbery.

Ajibade and Ojo were jailed by an Ado Ekiti high court, on Thursday after they were found guilty of robbery in parts of the state.

In a judgement, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye, who held that the prosecution failed to establish the allegation of armed robbery against the convicts, convicted them for robbery and sentenced the duo to 21 years each.

Justice Ogunmoye held that the terms are to run from the day of their arrest and detention in 2012.

They had been arrested along with one Lekan Olatunji and had been remanded in prison but Olatunji had escaped during a jailbreak on December 31, 2014 jailbreak.

The state’s Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Gbemiga Adaramola, appeared for the state while Mr. Chris Omokhafe appeared for the 1st accused person and Adeola Adetayo from the Legal Aid Council appeared for the 2nd accused person.

The prosecution told the court that the accused had invaded a house at Ureje area of Ado Ekiti, the state capital and had robbed the occupants of their cell phones and cash amounting to N20,000.

The prosecution explained that they were arrested at a hideout in Mugbagba area of the town.

They were first arraigned before an Ado Ekiti Magistrate’s Court before issuance of an advice from the DPP which established a case robbery against them at the State High Court.

In proving his case, the DPP called three witnesses and tendered exhibits including the statement of the accused, a knife, a cutlass, two pairs of sandals, a mask, two cell phones, two torchlights and some money.

The accused did not call any witness throughout the trial.
