No fewer than 19 students of the Joseph Ayo Babalola University, (JABU) Ikeji Arakeji, Osun State have graduated with first-class as the institution holds its 10th convocation on Friday.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kola Sonaike, who stated this on Monday during the Press conference to herald the 10th convocation ceremony of the school, disclosed that a total of 501 students would be graduating at the convocation.
He said the number comprised of 175 Second class honours, 225 second class lower grade, 82 third class, seven Postgraduate Diplomas and 20 Masters Degrees.
He explained that 501 students would be given first-degree certificates across 23 undergraduate programmes of the institution while 27 students would be awarded postgraduate certificates.
He said “The graduands are in the following categories: 19 of the students have secured first class honours, 175 have second class honours upper grade, 225 second class honours lower grade and 82 have third class grade.
” Another category of 27 students will be awarded postgraduate certificates. Seven of them will have postgraduate diploma certificates while the remaining 20 will be given Masters degree certificates,”
He disclosed that the best graduating student, Mr Joseph Temitope, from the Department of Computer Science graduated with a CGPA of 4.80.

The Vice-Chancellor said six eminent Nigerians will also be conferred with honorary doctorate degree awards on Friday, which included Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of House of Representatives, Governors Isiaka Oyetola of Osun and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
He said the list of the honorary awarded also include, Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the Managing Director of Bovas Company Ltd, Mrs Victoria Samson, and the Chairman of Chemstar Group of Companies, Lagos, Mr Emmanuel Aderemi Awode,
He said the recipients have actively engaged themselves in the pursuit of service for the global community and humanity, a have contributed to the development and growth of the country, saying “all of them will be honoured and will be received into Hall of Alumni of JABU”
Sonaike, who described the university as entrepreneurial-based institution with quality and best teaching, explained that JABU is determined in building and churning out job creators and self-sufficient students.
” We are determined to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of our academic programmes for the production of highly qualified and skilled graduates who will be self-reliant and job creators.
” Our university is structured into five colleges, comprising 23 programmes, and fully accredited and the college of postgraduate studies with 25 programmes at postgraduate diploma, masters and doctoral levels,” he said.
He said the school will continue to give priority to the institution’s staff welfare, saying that all deserved staff were promoted while salaries were paid regularly without any salary backlog.
He , therefore, promised that many notable activities and ongoing projects in the university would perfected and concluded.
Other activities lined up for the 10th edition of the school convocation include reunion service, convocation lecture while the conferment of bachelor’s degree, postgraduate and honorary degrees will come up on Friday, 17th January 2020.
