The Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology (FUTMinna), Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta has stated that no fewer than about 189 undergraduate students of the University will be awarded First Class Degrees in various disciplines as the Institution is poised to graduate 7,312 students during it’s 31st and 32nd combined convocation for 2020/2021 and 2022/2023 academic sessions.
It was further gathered that the combined convocation of the University which is scheduled for 1st February 2024 at the institution’s convocation square at the Gidan Kwano Main Campus of the Institution, will also see the award of second-class degrees (upper division) to 2,190 graduating students and 3,410 second-class degrees (lower division) to deserving students.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta stated this while briefing Journalists at the Conference Hall of the University’s Senate building in Gidan Kwano, Main Campus of the University yesterday ( Tuesday ) as part of the activities marking the combined convocations and founders day ceremony, adding that of this number, 71 students bagged First Class in the 2020/2021 academic session, while 116 others bagged First Class in the 2022 /2023 academic session.
While giving further details/breakdown of the degrees to be awarded, Professor Adamu Kuta noted that for the 2020/2021 academic session, 1,091 students got Second Class Upper division while 1,916 students got Second Class Lower, stressing that a total of 767 students got 3rd Class, while 22 students will be proceeding to their homes with Pass degrees.
He said, “For the 2022/2023 academic session, 116 students bagged First Class, 1,099 students got Second Class Upper, 1,494 Students got Second Class Lower, 716 students got Third Class and 20 students got Pass, highlighting that no student was withdrawn from the school due to poor academic performance within the year under review”.
The Vice Chandelier further stated that 120 Postgraduate Diplomas, 955 Master’s Degrees, and 150 Doctorate Degrees will be conferred with their degrees.
Professor Kuta disclosed that with a staff strength of 2,385 and a student population of 26,051, all the 58 academic programmes in the University have attained full National Universities Commission’s (NUC) accreditation status, stressing that the University is preparing to host an international accrediting body for International accreditation.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the highlights of this year’s convocation will be the commissioning of four key projects embarked upon by the University under his administration adding that these include African Center of Excellence for Mycotoxin and Food Safety (ACEMFS) building, the remodeled of the University main entrance gate, 500 metres road network within the campus and 38 Numbers of no rooms students hostel at the main campus, Gidan Kwano, Minna.
High point of the convocation ceremony will be a convocation lecture themed: “The Power of Vision and Innovation Technology: the Key to Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security in Africa” to be delivered by Professor John Kennedy Okpara.
