17 years posthumous, Portable clarifies controversial decision to relocate mother’s remains

Renowned Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has addressed the public regarding his recent decision to exhume and reinter his late mother’s remains, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding this controversial move.

In a video shared via social media, Portable revealed the reason behind his actions, explaining that the original burial site of his mother had been sold, compelling him to undertake the emotional task of relocating her remains.

Now 30 years old, Portable recalled the painful loss he endured at the tender age of 13 when his mother passed away, expressing the necessity of ensuring her final resting place was secure, despite the unforeseen sale of the land.

“I tragically lost my mother when I was just 13 years old. I had to relocate her remains because the land where she was initially laid to rest had been sold,” Portable recounted in a widely circulated video.

In a gesture of profound love and reverence for his late mother, Portable disclosed his intention to honor her memory by constructing a mansion on the newly selected burial ground.

While Portable’s decision may have sparked controversy, his explanation offers insight into the personal reasons underlying his actions.
