As part of their efforts to contribute to society, personnel of the 18 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Litani Barracks in Bida, carried out a sanitation exercise around the main market in Bida town, Bida Local Government Area of Niger State.

Brigadier-General Taye Ahmed flagged off the sanitation exercise in Bida on Thursday, saying the activity was part of the week-long Nigerian Army 161st anniversary celebration.

He said no society can be healthy without a clean environment, adding that the sanitation exercise was aimed at keeping the environment clean, especially as the country is facing an outbreak of cholera.

“Health is wealth. We started the celebration with Jumm’at prayers on June 28 and Church service on June 30, alongside other activities such as medical outreaches,” he said.

Ahmed said the 18 Brigade was partnering with environmental agencies in Bida to clear drainages and prevent blockages and the outbreak of diseases.

He added that the sanitation exercise would encourage people to keep their environment clean as a way of contributing to society.

The Commander disclosed that they would also visit some schools to talk to young students about patriotism and the importance of taking their civic duties seriously.

One of the residents, Ndagi Mohammed, thanked the army for cleaning drainages and waste sites, highlighting that the gesture would contribute to a healthy environment.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army was supported by sister security agencies such as the Police, Civil Defense, NDLEA, FRSC, and the Niger State Environmental Protection Agency (NSEPA).
