As part of their efforts to provide free quality surgical care for those who cannot afford surgical bills and reduce the global surgical burden, over 120 individuals have benefited from a free surgical outreach organised by the Right Aid Health Foundation (RAHF) in collaboration with ONELIFE Hospital.
The mission, which took place at ONELIFE Hospital in Lagos, was conducted and supervised by an experienced and board-certified surgical team, seven of whom were from the Association of Rural Surgical Practitioners of Nigeria (ARSPON).
During the two-week mission, held from 17th July to 31st July 2023, various surgical interventions were performed on individuals with conditions such as fibroids, hernias, goitres, breast lumps, hydroceles, benign prostate enlargement, and lipomas, among others.
The Right Aid Health Foundation is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 2015 with the primary objective of touching and saving lives through medical and surgical outreaches. The foundation has been providing counselling and treatment to individuals with medical, surgical, and dental diseases in Lagos and its environs.
Speaking about the foundation, Dr Oyebola Adekola, the founder, who also serves as the president of ARSPON and a Consultant Anaesthetist, explained that the initiative aims to touch and save lives as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR).
She emphasised that the mission’s goal is to provide affordable and safe surgical interventions, which would contribute to reducing the surgical disease burden in Nigeria.
Adekola called on governments and individuals at all levels to come to the aid of the foundation, as the program has been running for seven years without a sponsor.
She also highlighted the cooperation of ARSPON members, who have been supporting the foundation to perform more surgeries, adding that ARSPON had conducted four surgical outreaches for over 300 patients between January and July.
Mr Tunde Salam, one of the beneficiaries, expressed his joy and satisfaction with the outreach, stating that he now feels relieved after the successful surgery. He expressed his gratitude to God and the foundation for the health mission.
Other beneficiaries also appreciated the foundation and urged the surgical team not to relent in their mission to touch and save lives.
