10 things to know about Zenith Bank’s GMD Umeoji

On Tuesday, Zenith Bank Plc appointed Dame Adaora Umeoji as the new Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. 

However, she is the first female to lead the bank and her appointment is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) 

Below are things you should know about Dame Adaora Umeoji. 

She hails from Anambra State, Nigeria,

Umeoji earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Jos, followed by a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Calabar.

She furthered her education with a Master’s of Laws from the University of Salford, UK, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Apollos University, USA. 

Additionally, she holds a Certificate in Economics for Business from MIT Sloan School of Management, USA.

Umeoji is renowned as the founder of the Catholic Bankers Association of Nigeria (CBAN), dedicated to promoting ethical banking practices and humanitarian service.

With a career spanning nearly 30 years, including 26 years at Zenith Bank, Umeoji has been serving as the Deputy Managing Director since October 28, 2016.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to nation-building, she was honored with the Officer of the Order of Nigeria (OON) national award by the Nigerian government in 2022.

Umeoji is actively involved in peace advocacy for the United Nations (UN-POLAC) and holds the title of Lady of the Order of Knights of St. John International (KSJI).

She was also bestowed the Papal Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester by His Holiness Pope Francis.

Umeoji’s remarkable dedication to humanitarian service earned her the prestigious title of Humanitarian Services Icon of the Year at the Sun Awards in 2023.
