Police Officers Wives Association, Oyo state have empowered 303 widows of the late officers and men of the police force with foodstuffs and other materials worth million of naira.

Wife of the Oyo state governor, Engr Mrs Tamunominini Makinde presented the materials to the beneficiaries at the Command Headquarters on Saturday.

Makinde, in her address, enjoined corporate organizations, well meaning people in the society to key into the great idea of the Association.

She said, “This programme is an initiative that has come to stay because it has been happening for almost five years. I think it has come to stay.

“I will encourage as many people who can key into this idea to please help the families of our men and women who had dedicated their lives for us to be walking freely.

“I understand that the theme of this year programme is caring for our heroes, honouring the sacrifices of our fallen heroes through targeted support for their families.

“Our gathering is to support the families of the fallen heroes who fell in the line of duty. Losing a breadwinner is not easy for either a widow or widower who is left alone to shoulder the responsibility of raising the children.and making them comfortable.

“All these will require finance and it is a burden to either the widow or widower”

Earlier in her address, the state chairman of POWA and the wife of the Commissioner of Police, Oyo Command, Mrs Doyinsola Ayo-Sonubi had disclosed that the initiative is geared towards assisting the widow and widower of the fallen heroes.

According to her, “The gathering reflects our commitment to enhancing the welfare and potential of our families, women and girls.

“We are proud to announce that 60 Late Police Officers Wives Association, (LAPOWA) members and 103 Police Wives Association, (PWA) members will receive essential palliatives. We aim to sustain initiative annually.

“As we honour the men and women in uniform with have made the ultimate sacrifice, we extend our heartfelt condolences and solidarity to their families.”
