As part of effort to boost educational development in Ondo state, no fewer than 100 indigent students from Akure North local government area of Ondo state in Tuesday, benefitted from the free JAMB UTME forms sponsored by Dele Ologun Foundation (DOF)
Speaking during the distribution of the forms on Tuesday, the donor, Mr. Dele Ologun, said he decided to invest in the education of the youths in the area to bring development to the local government and the state as a whole.
He disclosed that apart from the distribution of the JAMB forms, about N5million has been earmarked to sponsor three best students from the area in tertiary institutions.
While speaking on the modalities in selecting the beneficiaries, he stated that the students were selected from Iju, Itaogbolu, Ogbese, Oba-Ile and other communities within the local government area, saying education remains the best and only legacy anyone can give to the youths.
He said, “DOF is an independent private organisation that is committed to assisting the less privileged in capacity building and economic development.
“We support primary and secondary school education, health, educational institution and render community/social services among the young and old, male and female, students and artisans, widows and widowers etc.
“Distribution of 100 JAMB forms and N5m grants for three outstanding students from this local government is borne out of our desire to make education accessible to some of our students that may find it difficult to obtain JAMB forms.
“This will enable them gain admission into higher institution and also alleviate the financial challenges experienced due to the current economic recession.”
He lamented that the people of the area had been marginalised by past administrations in the state and appealed to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu “to accord to us what is due to us in Itaogbolu and Akure North Local Government at large.”
The new caretaker chairmen of the council, Mr. Segun Oluyede, commended the the foundation for its support for the youths, describing his support for education in the local government as unprecedented.
He urged the beneficiaries to be studious in their academics, assuring them that the leaders and stakeholders would support the state government and DOF to develop the local government.
“The wind of change is blowing and it shall surely affect us positively. I want to urge and encourage our youths to be law abiding and support this government,” they said.
