THE President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Dr Nike Akande has described the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) as a very strategic agency in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Speaking during the end of the year dinner put together by the NSC in Lagos recently, Mrs. Akande stated that the elevation of the NSC to the status of the economic regulator in the Nigerian maritime sector should be applauded.
According to her, “the elevation of the NSC to the position of economic regulator will improve the quality of engagement between the service providers in the Nigerian maritime sector and other players in the economy at large.
“However, a number of activities need to be streamlined for efficiency and effectiveness, and the various agencies at the ports needs to work moiré harmoniously in the interest of the larger economy.
“We need to make our ports and international trade processes more investment friendly. I am aware that the Shippers Council has taken some major steps in this regard. The Council needs our support and cooperation to do even more.
“There is tremendous scope for collaboration between the Shippers Council and the organised private sector. I am confident that such partnership will be mutually beneficial.”
