KANO State governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as part of the activities for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, on Saturday, visited Kano Central Prison and Goron Dutse Prison, from which he released 200 and 150 inmates, respectively.
He also gave them N5,000 each to assist them return to their respective homes.
Speaking on the occasion, Ganduje said: “This pardon granted as part of the 2017 Eid-el-Kabir celebration is to enable all the released inmates to start a new life.
“I also hope that they will be law-abiding and engage themselves in conducts that will be productive to them and their families.”
Alhaji Ado Abdullahi, who represented the Minister of Interior at the event, commended the governor for the gesture.
He disclosed that in the records of the ministry, no governor had released half the number of inmates Ganduje did.
A few of those condemned to death, and who were on life imprisonment had their sentences reviewed downwards.
It will be recalled that during the Eid El Fitr celebrations two months ago, Ganduje directed that 500 prisoners be carefully selected for immediate release.
