The Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria (AMDON) has explained that the recent introduction of the PoliceBCMR, a technological means of attaching an automobile owner’s biodata on a smart card, would help check the incidence of vehicle thefts across the country.
The Association had, recently, in Lagos, signed an agreement with the Nigeria Police for the use of the anti auto-theft system, PoliceBCMR.
At the official signing of the agreement with the consultant, Media Concepts International Limited, the designer of the technology, the association’s president, Mr. Ajibola Adedoyin, expressed the belief that the new technology would go a long way in enhancing the ease of doing business in the nation’s auto industry.
“Prior to this, our members had been having challenges identifying stolen vehicles. Sometimes they, unknowingly, buy such compromised vehicles and the end result is that they are either chased out of the business or out of town.
”That’s why we came up with this concept and decided to partner with the Nigeria Police so as to see how we can put a stop to it. We believe this will even reduce the amount of money and resources wasted on trying to recover stolen vehicles,” he statted.
He added that the PoliceBCMR also provides a platform for the centralization of vehicle documents, in order to create and authenticate the much-needed database for police operational use in crime management nationwide.
In his remarks, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ayotunde Omodeinde, described the initiative as one of the projects the Police authority had approved to combat car thefts in the country as well as protect innocent car dealers.
He noted that the technology would go a long way in ensuring the integration of the AMDON system with the Police BCMR, to enable the two parties track stolen vehicles, while also making it easy for members of the public to buy vehicles without trouble.
The chairman of Cornfield Group, the parent company of Media Concepts International, Dr Babatope Agbeyo described the initiative as a giant step towards safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians.
“The Police now know that the job, security has gone beyond guns and cudgels, it’s now high tech, they are now embracing technology which is making it better,” stated Agbeyo.
