The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has said the country needs to upgrade from archaic gadgets used 20 years ago as they could not stand in the modern digital age.
Dr Isa Ibrahim, the Director-General of the agency said this in a statement signed by the Head, Corporate Affairs and External Relations, Mrs Hadiza Umar, in Abuja, last week.
Ibrahim spoke during the donation of a Digital Capacity Building Centre (DCBC) to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) headquarters in Abuja, last week.
He said that the country needed to upgrade electronics equipment to be at par with modern technology, especially for information communication as the world had gone digital.
He said that the centre was therefore established to boost the capacity of the management and staff of the NTA for effective and modern communication.
“NTA has to go with the world best practice to make its staff relevant and updated.
“Besides upgrading, the centre has the capacity to train the staff with the availability of e-learning application, server and wireless internet connectivity.
“This will allow for access to different educational materials that will be useful for their development,” he said.
Ibrahim, however, said that the agency had the regulatory mandate of enforcing government information technology projects which required publicity.
