THE Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in Nasarawa State, Ahmed Tijani, has said that the local government areas in the state would require N9bn to offset arrears of its workers salary.
The commissioner disclosed this on Wednesday, while addressing newsmen in Lafia, after a Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting.
Tijani who acknowleged the receipt of N3bn Paris club funds said 50% has been earmarked for developmental projects while the other 50% would be used to augment shortfalls in salaries.
He said N324 million has already been injected into December salary to equalize all LGAs salary to 60 percent adding that; the local government areas received N1.307bn from the federation account.
The commissioner explained that, the Paris club fund is inconsequential in offsetting all arrears of local government workers salary, hence, there was no need to raise eyebrows over the release of the fund.
