Nasarawa House House of Assembly has issued a 24- hour ultimatum to the chairmen of 11 Local Government Interim Management Committee (IMC), to assign portfolios to its members as stipulated in the constitution or risk sack.
The Assembly, had, on July 22, screened and confirmed 146 out of 147 IMC members of local government IMC, including their various chairmen, but the various IMC chairmen have refused to delegate responsibilities to their members.
The deputy speaker of the House, Godiya Akwashiki, who was the presiding officer, announced the resolution of the house after the chairman, House committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Saidu Galadima, submitted a report of non-assignment of portfolios to members of the IMC from 11 local government areas of the state.
“No government agency or parastatal has the right to disregard our laws, failure to comply, would be interpreted as insolence and insubordination and shall attract the necessary reprimand.”
The deputy speaker said that if the IMC chairmen fails to comply, the house would invoke the provision of Section 2(1)d of the local government amended law 2016 and request their substitution with those who are ready to do the job.
The presiding officer, however, directed the clerk of the house to communicate the house resolution to the affected IMC chairmen.
