Idi-oro fracas: Task force prosecutes 39 notorious miscreants, hoodlums

LAGOS State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation (Task Force) said it has prosecuted 39 out of 68 notorious miscreants and hoodlums arrested by its operatives during Monday fracas that occurred at Idi-oro area of Mushin.

Chairman of the Agency, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, disclosed that the 39 miscreants and hoodlums were youths leaders and gang members from Alamutu Street and Akala Elegba boys.

According to him, a total of 68 were initially arrested at the scene of the incident out of which 29 were released for having no connection with the fracas, while the remaining 39 were dragged before the Lagos State Mobile Court presided over by Magistrate Tosin Ojuromi on a 4-count charge.

The charges include breach of peace, unlawful possession of weed suspected to be indian hemp, obstructing security officers while discharging their lawful duties and roaming around streets without legitimate livelihood/homes.

Egbeyemi said dangerous weapons recovered by security agencies during the fracas include machetes, axes, rods, cutlasses, charms and six full bags of weed suspected to be indian hemp.

The Task Force boss disclosed that the affected hoodlums and miscreants engaged themselves in a free for all that resulted into loss of lives and properties, saying that some houses and shops were burnt around Idi-Oro, while food items, including bags of rice and beans were looted.

Egbeyemi, while saying that informed that huge investments on both infrastructural development and security apparatus across the state by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration was meant to provide a peaceful environment devioded of any criminal activities, urged parents and guidance to always monitor activities of their wards as the government would not spare anyone or group of persons caught breaching peace being enjoyed by the citizens across the nooks and crannies of the state.
