Former Five Star Music star, Harrysong has explained his decision not to renew his deal with the record label, which he joined about five years ago. He said he could not renew the deal that he got from the management of the company because the deal did not represent the new dimension he would be willing to take his music career to.
The Delta State-born songwriter who has since floated his record label, which he called Alter Plate said that he could no longer stay with his Five Star family because he wanted a new challenge for his music career. According to him,” It is official, I did not renew my deal with Five Star music. I could not go on with what they were offering me and it does not represent what I want my music to stand for at this point in my career.”
Speaking further, Harrysong who was said to have been ready to drop his debut album before he quit said there were a number of reasons why he could no longer stay with Five Star, adding that “I could not stay with a family that does not appreciate my effort to the continued success of the label. I contributed a lot to the business but I got little in return. When they brought the renewal, I felt betrayed because it didn’t reflect what I wanted from the team.”
Harrysong’s problem with the label was said to have started when he made frantic efforts to drop his debut album, but was always told to wait for the right time. It was also gathered that his One Delta Peace Concert, which he held in Delta State some months back was said to have been the last straw as he was warned by the management not hold the concert.
Speaking on how he fell out with the label, the Baba for the Girls crooner said “I don’t really want to go into the details right now because everybody has moved on. But the truth is that we did not agree on a number issues that were very germane to my career. One of them is my album. Another thing is the percentage that management collects on every show I got. You can imagine when you wrote songs for somebody and that person told you if he didn’t sing your songs, nobody would appreciate them. The bottom line is that I was not appreciated the way I wanted and I had to move on.”
On his new record lable, Harrysong revealed that his record label, Alter Plate has come to stay. “I did my home work thoroughly before I set out to float the label. I am not looking back and it is over between Five Star Music and I,” he said.
Neither E-Money, owner of Five Star Music nor Kcee, who is also a co-woner of the company was willing to comment on the development as calls placed through the label’s manager’s phone, Soso Soberekon, were not picked.
