AN Assistant Superintendent Corps 1 (ASC1) attached to the Ekiti State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Sunday Afolabi, has been shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen.
Afolabi was said to have been shot dead in Ado Ekiti, the state capital on Wednesday.
Sources said Afolabi was shot in the chest and he died on the spot at Afao Road, where he was said to have been attacked.
Spokesman of NSCDC in the state, Mr Tolu Afolabi, while confirming the murder, on Thursday, said. “Unknown gunmen have killed an officer of NSCDC, Sunday Afolabi, an Assistant Superintendent Corps 1 (ASC1), along Afao Road, Ado Ekiti at about 3:30p.m on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
“The officer was shot in the heart. His corpse has been deposited at the mortuary while investigation has been launched into the murder.”
The late Afolabi was said to be serving in the intelligence and investigation unit of the agency in Ekiti command.
Reacting to the development, the state police command said Afolabi was killed by suspected “cult boys,” saying his body was deposited at the mortuary by some policemen who visited the scene after the killing.
The Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ekiti Police Command, Mr Alberto Adeyemi, said the late Afolabi was killed by suspected cult boys at Afao Road.
Adeyemi said: “I have just spoken with Officer in charge of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (OC-SARS) and he said the cult boys killed the civil defence personnel along Afao Road where the NSCDC office is located.
“We sympathise with our sister security agency on the killing of the officer. Investigation has commenced on the incident.”
