IT is doubtful that any Nigerian is satisfied with the activities of the oil distribution companies. I recently had cause to complain over excessive billing of my apartment in Ikotun, Lagos.
Having recently moved into the two-bedroom apartment, I was given an exorbitant bill of N862,446.12 to settle, despite the fact that the house under question had never defaulted in the payment of electricity bills.
The officials disconnected my power supply, insisting that I pay the said amount. I am sure that my experience is not an isolated one. It is unfair to ask customers to pay for electricity that they have not consumed.
I believe that it is imperative for the discos to provide prepaid meters for all customers.
The regulatory agency should also ensure that consumers of power supply are not constantly ripped off by the discos.
If we are not protected by the regulatory agency, then this is no longer a democracy.
