The Kogi state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on Wednesday disclosed that the state government would establish a social support programme for the widows and children of the Nigerian military that died in active service.  Speaking at the inauguration of the 2017 armed forces Remembrance Day emblem held at Lokoja, the state capital, the governor paid glowing tributes to the late Lt Col Muhammed Abu Ali, who was killed by members of the Boko Haram, last November The governor, who directed the ministry of women affairs and social development to work out the modalities and template for the scheme, noted that soldiers from the state had contributed to the exploits of the Nigerian military.  He said the social support programme would further enable government to contribute to the well being of the people left behind by the dead officers.  Bello said the state would continue to provide logistics for security agencies in the state to combat crime and make the state crime free.  The chairman, Kogi state council of chiefs who is also the Atta Igala, Michael Idakwo, advocated special funds to be contributed by the private sector for the wellbeing of the families of the fallen heroes.  He said there was the need for the country to do more for the people, adding that their remembrance should be a daily affair instead of the yearly event.  The monarch said that foreigners and businessmen who are making money from the country should be ready to contribute, as government alone could not bear the burden.  According to him, the people were able to make money because of the prevailing peaceful atmosphere; stating that some people made sacrifices for the present situation.
