Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has arrived Washington D.C., United States of America, for a week long visit.
Mrs Buhari arrived the United States Wednesday evening, en-route London in a British Airways flight.
The reason for the first lady’s visit though not yet officially released, reports however, said Mrs Buhari is expected to attend meetings at the George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
Also, reports said she would be hosted by the United States Institute of Peace, in collaboration with Voice of America, and attend the 25th Anniversary celebration of Zumunta Association USA Inc.
Mrs Buhari was welcomed among other dignitaries by a little girl dressed in Nigerian colours, who presented the first lady with a bouquet of flowers.
She also took time out to pose for pictures with other Nigerians in the airport, displaying the Nigeria flag with smile.
The First Lady’s visit to US had generated a lot of comments from different interests on the social media consequent upon Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose’s claims, who in June, alleged that Mrs Buhari was the “Aisha Buhari” said to be involved in the infamous Halliburton scandal in the US.
Though reports had shown that no “Aisha Buhari” was mentioned in the Halliburton scandal, but in the case of former United States congressman William Jefferson convicted on corruption charges in 2009, where one “Aisha Buhari” was mentioned to have wired the sum of $170,000 to the convicted congressman.
It was consequent upon this claim that Governor Fayose challenged the First Lady that she could not enter the US without being arrested.
However, Mrs Buhari had already proven her innocence, saying she wasn’t the Aisha Buhari involved in any case in the United States, as a result of which she had filed court charges against Governor Fayose owing to his allegations.
