Emir of Bungudu, Alhaji Hassan Attahiru, has commended successive administrations in Zamfara State, saying the state has witnessed tremendous development since its creation in 1996.
The emir spoke when he received a delegation from the Zamfara State Media Corporation, led by its Managing Director, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi Bunun Jangebe.
He recalled that after the creation of the state by the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, in October 1996, hundreds of civil servants moved from the old Sokoto State to Zamfara even before receiving their redeployment letters.
Attahiru noted that residents of Gusau generously provided accommodation and office spaces for the workers free of charge for two years, while individuals and communities also donated funds to help the new government function.
He said the first military administrator, Colonel J.B. Yakubu, operated from the old Gusau Local Government Secretariat, now part of the Government House, until the return to civilian rule in 1999.
The emir noted that the first elected governor, Ahmad Sani Yarima Bakura, introduced several reforms, including the implementation of Sharia, promotion of social values, employment generation, workers’ welfare and infrastructural development.
He also acknowledged the contributions of former governors Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, and Bello Matawalle to the political and economic development of the state.
Attahiru described Yari’s contributions as ‘unforgettable’, adding that all the former governors did their best within their capacities to develop Zamfara.

On the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal, the emir said its achievements were remarkable, describing them as “almost magical” given the governor’s background in the banking sector.
The monarch urged the people and leaders of the state to continue praying for divine intervention against evil acts, while also commending the media corporation for its ongoing transformation.
He praised the rehabilitation and equipping of Zamfara Radio, Zamfara Television, Zamfara Gold City FM and the Government Printing and Publishing Company, publishers of Legacy Newspaper.
He said the programme, which includes modern digital equipment and staff training at institutions including the Nigerian Broadcasting Academy, National Film Institute and Daily Trust Foundation, would help revive and strengthen broadcasting in Zamfara.
