Oyo Governor, Seyi Makinde, has extended warm Christmas greetings to Christians in the state and across Nigeria, calling on them to embrace love, peaceful coexistence and harmony with one another and their neighbours.

The governor made the call in his Christmas message issued on Thursday, noting that the birth of Jesus Christ underscores the true essence of the season, which is love, humility and peace.

Governor Makinde stressed that Christians should reflect the teachings of Jesus Christ by showing love to all and living in peace, especially during the Yuletide celebrations.

He also urged residents of Oyo State to remain vigilant and security-conscious as they celebrate, reiterating that safeguarding the state is a collective responsibility of both the government and the citizens.

The governor encouraged residents to promptly report any suspicious activity to security agencies through the Oyo State Citizen Emergency Number, 615, reminding them that the policy of “if you see something, say something” remains in effect.

He said, “I wish our Christian brethren and indeed all residents of Oyo State and Nigeria a Merry Christmas. Christmas symbolises love, as exemplified by the miraculous yet humble birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we must live out the message and essence of the season.

“I also urge residents to be observant and vigilant as they go about their celebrations. While the government continues to do its part in ensuring the security of lives and property, citizens also have a role to play.

“The Oyo State Citizen Emergency Number, 615, remains active. Please use it to report any emergency or suspicious activity, and our rapid response system will be promptly activated.

“Once again, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas.”
