The management of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado-Ekiti said it has recorded huge achievements in the area of research, improved health services, infrastructure and rebranding in the last fifteen years of its establishment.
The Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Professor Kayode Olabanji, spoke on Tuesday during a press briefing to commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the Teaching Hospital.
He said that the hospital has made conscious efforts in the past 15 years to provide clinical services for patients in and outside the state and infrastructural projects.
According to him, the teaching Hospital has secured accreditation for both the Midwifery and Nursing programmes which has been upgraded to the College of Nursing Sciences and the creation of more departments in the clinical services.
He said: “Despite the challenges, the hospital has been carrying out more clinical services for patients or clients who are sick. As a Teaching Hospital, we have a function of research and training in addition to clinical services.
“We have secured accreditation for a large number of our programmes. First, the Medical School is domiciled in the University and College of Medicine.
“The School of Nursing has secured full accreditation for both the Midwifery and Nursing programmes. We have been upgraded to the College of Nursing Sciences.
“Many more departments have been added in the Clinical Services. We have close to 70 Consultants in various disciplines of Medicine and Surgery. We have the capability to attend to diverse cases across the board with only very few that will need some rear interventions to be referred to other centres.
“The state government has also repainted many Buildings in the Hospital and provided equipment like Computerized Photography Scan (CPS), Endoscopy, Digital X-Rays as opposed to the previous analogue X-rays, among others.”
The CMD commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti state for his interventions while calling on stakeholders and well-meaning individuals to support and partner with the hospital.
“The government has been very supportive and many stakeholders. Governor Oyebanji has started attending to issues of staff welfare. He has approved the payment of hazard allowance and the Resident Doctors.
“We have been operating an open and transparent system, raising from IGR just to attend to their welfare. We have been addressing it. We keep talking and interacting with them.
“Government cannot do it alone. We need more support from well-meaning Nigerians to partner with us. We invite others to join in this rebranding,” the CMD said.
