A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is aware that the All Progressives Congress cannot secure 20 per cent of votes in a free and fair election.

Olawepo-Hashim made the statement during a live interview on Sunday Politics, a programme on Channels Television, monitored by Tribune Online.

Speaking on the forthcoming 2027 general elections, he maintained that the ruling APC is facing more internal challenges than the opposition.

“If the opposition is dead and buried as they claimed, why then are they afraid of the next year’s general elections?” He said.

He added that despite public perception of President Tinubu as a political strategist, the situation on the ground suggests otherwise.

“All the internet and data boys praise President Tinubu as a strategist. He has done the polls, and he knows that in a free and fair election today, the APC cannot score 20 per cent of the vote,” he said.

Olawepo-Hashim further alleged internal divisions within the APC, noting that some members of the party may work against its interests.

“Even in the same APC, they know those who are ready to bite them in the back. And I can tell you that they have more issues than the PDP,” he added.
